PSP firmware update 5.00 released

PSP firmware update 5.00 released - Just after the release of PSP 3000, the new Playstation Portable handheld device, comes the news of another release from Sony: PSP firmware 5.

Unless you’re a great fan of PSP homebrews, you should be pleased with the additions in the new firmware update, since it offers many advantages to PSP gamers.

“[The company had added] a number of new features and improved some existing functionality to make your [PSP] experience even better,” said the director of PlayStation Network Operations at Sony, Eric Lempel.

In this version, you’ll see the addition of the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB. It means that you can now sign up for PSN (PlayStation Network), manage your account and access PlayStation Store directly from your PSP.

But you should remember that if you already have a PSN account, you can simply sign in on your PSP using your existing information. The same account and wallet can be used on PSP and PS3.

With the exception of a separate video storefront, it is functionally identical to the PS3′s PS store, including the option to enter PSN Card numbers and voucher codes from within.

Update v5.00 includes a sleep timer function that can be used for shutting off the PSP when you’re listening to music on your PSP. They’ve also added a full screen QWERTY keyboard option as a method of text input and have redesigned the background of the XMB.

In addition, PS1 titles played via PSP’s video out can be viewed in full 4:3 size, without the black border that surrounds PSP games played on 16:9 and 4:3 displays.
