Metal Slug XX announced for PSP

Metal Slug XX announced for PSP - Recently the US publisher Atlus has announced a new PSP game: Metal Slug XX. It’s a new version of Metal Slug, SNK’s classic action shooter.

The game story is as follows: After General Morden is defeated and captured, a mysterious army arrives from the future to save him. They reveal themselves to be the Mars People and their goal is to provide their future leader with special advanced weaponry to take on his enemies in the present. Classic Metal Slug characters Marco, Tarma, Fio, Eri, Ralf, and Clark return once again to take on General Morden and his new and improved Rebel Army.

In addition to the usual side-scrolling action originated from the DS version, Metal Slug XX includes seven levels with branching routes, six playable characters, three difficulty modes, 70 Combat School missions and a special seventh character named Leona who could be downloaded from the PlayStation Store. And you should know that Leona will have her own special abilities too.

The game also has a local wi-fi co-op two-player mode, so you can play through with a friend.

Metal Slug XX is rated teen and is going to be released in the US on February 23 with a $20 tag price. (But don’t worry! As soon as it’s out you can download it along with other PSP games from this site.)

Important Note: This Kernel Exploit was NOT found by me. It was handed to me by Zecoxao, and it was handed to him by Davee.
Another Important note: You run the application at your OWN risk. I am not held accountable if you screw up your PSP.

Changelog:
Added Support for 6.60
Fixed 6.60 problem that didn't allow to downgrade to anything greater than 6.20, thanks to Davee

This tutorial is for people that want to downgrade to 6.20/6.35
[This downgrader only works on firmwares 6.31 / 6.35 / 6.38 / 6.39 / 6.60]
(Note: If you are on 6.61 or higher your out of luck)

Extract the rar file using 7zip or winRAR. You will then find a file named EBOOT.PBP.

1: Using your PC, create a folder named "PSP". Within the "PSP" folder, create a folder named "GAME". Within the "GAME" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE". (Folder names must be in all uppercase letters).

2: Copy the EBOOT.PBP you downloaded to your UPDATE folder.

Now you have to download a downgrader to downgrade your PSP's firmware to 6.20 OFW.

Game Categories Lite v1.4 for 6.60 (Tool)

Game Categories Lite v1.4 for 6.60 (Tool) - This plugin allows you to categorize your games/homebrews on your PSP

This plugin is based and uses source code from Game Categories Revised v12 (GCR) and Game Categories Light v1.3 (GCL), both created by Bubbletune. Compatible with 6.20, 6.3x and 6.60 CFW.

I changed the name of the project (doing a fudge in the process) to avoid confusion with GCL (this plugin doesn't use the folder categories present in firmwares 6.xx) and GCR (the plugin is based heavily in GCL since it doesn't use a kernel/user approach).

You can configure the folder prefix (use CAT_ for folders or not), showing uncategorized content and change the category mode in system settings.

If you want a translation of the visible options then edit the file category_lite_en.txt and save it using the language code that first you (e.g. "es" for spanish).

Note: you must use UTF-8 encoding for the translation files (without unicode BOM).

Languages supported: "ja", "en", "fr", "es", "de", "it", "nl", "pt", "ru", "ko", "ch1", "ch2"

The source code is also available in https://github.com/codestation/gclite

TODO:
* Add folder categories like GC Light

Known issues:
Change of category in the PSPGo requires a VSH reset.

Changelog:
v1.4:
• 6.60 firmware support
• Allow the uncategorized folder to be sorted
• Multiple language support.
• Added ja translation by popsdeco
• Added de translation by KOlle

Phantasy Star Portable for PSP announced

Phantasy Star Portable for PSP announced - Sega has announced that Phantasy Star Portable, one of the most anticipated PSP games, will be released in March 2009 for North American PSP gamers.

The game is developed by Alfa System and was recently released in Japan, selling 500,000 copies in one week. Sega will no doubt be hoping for similar success in North America with the Japanese-developed RPG.

The story of Phantasy Star Portable takes place just after the events of Phantasy Star Universe, and players have to partner up with Vivienne – a new character for the series – to investigate an outbreak of wild animals that seem to have the remnants of a wicked force.

There are more than 150 new weapons and items to find in this PSP game, and you may choose from three Class types and four Races before you begin your long adventure.

In addition to a single-player mode, there’s also online co-op play where you can team up with three others via the PSP’s ad hoc wireless mode. And perhaps, the reason for huge success of this PSP game in Japan is because of its 4-player multiplayer support.

Exclusive new missions and ‘hardcore features’ are also included – such as Item and Enemy Book records and Titles unlocked by achieving difficult goals. This will add a few hundred hours of replay value to Phantasy Star Portable making it the most addicting RPG PSP game.

PSP firmware update 5.00 released

PSP firmware update 5.00 released - Just after the release of PSP 3000, the new Playstation Portable handheld device, comes the news of another release from Sony: PSP firmware 5.

Unless you’re a great fan of PSP homebrews, you should be pleased with the additions in the new firmware update, since it offers many advantages to PSP gamers.

“[The company had added] a number of new features and improved some existing functionality to make your [PSP] experience even better,” said the director of PlayStation Network Operations at Sony, Eric Lempel.

In this version, you’ll see the addition of the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB. It means that you can now sign up for PSN (PlayStation Network), manage your account and access PlayStation Store directly from your PSP.

But you should remember that if you already have a PSN account, you can simply sign in on your PSP using your existing information. The same account and wallet can be used on PSP and PS3.

With the exception of a separate video storefront, it is functionally identical to the PS3′s PS store, including the option to enter PSN Card numbers and voucher codes from within.

Update v5.00 includes a sleep timer function that can be used for shutting off the PSP when you’re listening to music on your PSP. They’ve also added a full screen QWERTY keyboard option as a method of text input and have redesigned the background of the XMB.

In addition, PS1 titles played via PSP’s video out can be viewed in full 4:3 size, without the black border that surrounds PSP games played on 16:9 and 4:3 displays.

You’ll be able to download PSP Firmware v5.00 from here.

Final Fantasy IX for PSP announced

Final Fantasy IX for PSP announced - Square Enix has finally confirmed that Final Fantasy IX will be released for the PSP and PS3. And it comes as no surprise, since based on download reports, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VII were the two best selling PSP games so far.

Final Fantasy IX was first appeared in 2000 for PS1 console and was the third game in the series. The game brought new features to the franchise, such as Moogle save system, the Active Time Events, and a revamped equipment and skill system.

We hope that Square Enix does a nice job of offering it on the PSP format, because that’s how we like to enjoy playing this classic RPG.

The announcement wasn’t made via Square Enix’s official site or even via press release. In fact, the it came through a brief video message by Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada posted to the company Twitter account. Shot using a cell phone, in the six second video clip, Wada just said that the new game would be released for the PSP and PS3.

We expect a more formal announcement that will offer us more detailed release information – hopefully for USA and Japan.
